It's almost time for our 2013 trip to Honduras!
This year I'll be going with Bill, Laronda, Sammy, Billy, Elaine, Mike, Tommy, Emma, David, (not my David), Mac, Phillip, Connie, Judy, Poppa Frank AND my sister, Cleta!!! I'm so excited she is able to go this year!
We leave early on a Sunday morning flying through Miami to Tegucigalpa. Then get in a mini van for a 4 to 5 hour bus ride to Catacamas! I can't wait to see the sweet faces of all our brothers and sisters in Honduras! And the kids, of course.
David's Mom has been busy sewing aprons, this past year. She is sending 50 aprons for the ladies. She is so awesome!!! Thanks, Madelyn!
I'm working on a Bible lesson for the ladies class. The subject is Gossip! 😳 I pray I don't upset anyone, but rather, encourage them and help them to do what God wants us to do. Please pray for me to say what God would have me to.
David and I were on our way home this summer from Cloudcroft, NM and stopped in Artesia to go to church. We visited the Hermosa Drive church of Christ and the lesson that day was -- gossip. It has been on my mind ever since and I know God must have been trying to get my attention by guiding us there. I have been asking everyone to comment as to what your response would be... How do you react when someone wants to share some juicy tidbit. AND, what scripture would you share with the other person?
I'll be sharing more posts and some pictures as we go on our little adventure!!! Please keep us in your prayers as we (and the workers in Honduras) plan, pack, travel... Etc... Please pray for safe travel and good health for everyone. In Him, ch

Honduras 2012 - To go or not to go?
That is the question. There is a group of about 12 that are leaving Sunday for a mission trip to Catacamas, Honduras. Most of them weren't able to go last summer and have a flight voucher that must be used, now. Fortunately, I was able to go last summer and had a blessed trip .

There have been some evil people doing evil things to our church family in Catacamas. We know these things go on, but seems this is the first time is has been so close to home. One of the preacher friends there, Jose, had a daughter taken by gunpoint about a block from the church building Sunday. She was released the next morning. We still don't know all the details, and probably don't want to know. We just pray she and Jose & Olga and the family heal from this horrible tragedy. We pray that God will comfort her and keep her safe.

So, do I really want to go to this place where horrible things happen to good people? God knows my heart and I know if it is possible, I will go. If he doesn't want me to go, I will help any way I can with funds and prayers.
So, we shall wait and see. Praying....

Honduras 2011 - Sharing Colors!
There is a new church building in the community of el Encino, Olancho, Honduras.

It is located about 20 minutes from Catacamas, in a very poor community. Cary(seen in the picture above, way back in the corner), from Jacksboro worked several days with Jose (and others I don't know) to put a roof on the building.

Our group went there in the morning, towards the end of our trip, and we were sad that we were running out of colors. Suyapa had some left from the previous year, and she brought those. We usually give each child colors to keep, and it just crushed our hearts that we didn't have some to leave with these sweet kids. So, since we only had about 40 colors, total, they had to share. There were about 50 children and we actually had a lot of adults stay for our children's Bible lesson on the armor of God. When they were done coloring, many tried to give the colors back to us.

Bless their hearts, it was so humbling to see how they enjoyed coloring, then didn't even expect to keep the colors. Next time, we will be sure to take more colors and those children (and adults) will get to keep what we bring them.

Thank you God for the church family in el Encino and please bless them for their sweet spirits.

Did I tell you about our 2011 mission trip to Catacamas?
Only 6 got to go this summer. Mike, Phillip, Laronda, Cary, Alexis and myself. It was a great trip, even though it was a small group. We got to meet a lot of new people and held several Bible classes for 500 or so children. Thankfully, the largest class was around 120 at la Colonia Agricola, and the smallest was at el Encino with about 35 kiddos. We enjoyed a lot of home visits this year, with one trek taking us down a muddy road, across a small river, through several corn fields, under barbed wire fences...and back again.

The first picture is a home where funds were donated for a new roof for the family.
Here is a family receiving a food bag with staples like flour, sugar, lard, corn meal and other basics. We funded about 120 food bags. We didn't get to deliver all of them while we were there, but the others were distributed afterwards.
Here Laronda is getting a hug after leaving this lady some food. We had an awesome trip and hope to go again soon.

Remembering 9-11-01
Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001. I was sitting in our living room. Drinking coffee. Watching The Today Show on NBC, channel 5. David was at work.
That's what I was doing on 9/11.
Wow! How awful! Tragic!
Then, the second plane hit!
Shock! Anger! Sadness!
Not sure why I didn't immediately call David, but I just sat there. Glued to the television.
Finally, I had to get out of the house, so I went walking in the neighborhood. Not much traffic. Guessed everyone else was glued to their televisions, too.
One of the things that still touches me to this day is remembering all of the pictures of lost loved ones posted everywhere. People desperate for word about someone they loved. I was thankful all my loved ones were safe, but saddened that so many had died needlessly. I prayed that God would comfort them. I still pray that same prayer.
Since 9-11... Ten years have gone by so fast and I'm thinking back, over all that has happened. Remembering those lost loved ones. Daddy. Feldon. Corwin. Granny Johnson. Billy. Many others... Remembering joys... such as when our grandchildren, Lindsay, Brayden and Shelby, were born... Being able to go on the four mission trips to Honduras and meeting so many sweet people there and sharing the Good News about Jesus with them.
I thank God for my family, my church family, for friends, for all He has given me. I am truly blessed. Thank You, God!

Honduras 2011 - Coming Soon!!!
Two weeks from today a group from Jacksboro, Wichita Falls and Naples, TX will be in Catacamas Honduras! The trip this year has been on again and off again for several months! What a roller coaster. It has been crazy and changed our group from 20 or so to only 7. Sad that many won't be able to make it this year, but we will have a great time doing the Lord's work for the sweetest people. David won't be making the trip this year(vacation issues), so that makes me sad, but maybe next year. Can't wait to see old and familiar faces and meet new ones. Still working on my Bible lesson and handwork. Lots of small cut outs, but the ladies at church have been a great help getting that done. THANKS LADIES! Couldn't have done it without you! Please keep us all in your prayers. Will post pics when we get back.

Honduras 2010
What a trip we had. It was a great! We had 23 workers this trip. Rained EVERY DAY! There is a facebook group that has over 1000 pictures, if you want to see what we did. We all made it back safely. There is a lot of work to do there and the brothers and sisters of Honduras need lots of prayers. Just heard from David Chacon that there is flooding that has affected the Catacamas area and they have recently lost 50 in the church family to dengue fever. Please remember them in your prayers.

Christmas is near...
Many friends are facing the first Christmas without loved ones. Our sympathy goes out to the Russell family, the Frie Family, the King Family, the Escobar Family (from Honduras), and many others...
Count your many blessings, count them one, by one...
And our blessings are many!
Thank You God for the ultimate sacrifice of allowing your precious Son to come to earth. Please, please, please remember to thank God for Jesus and the sacrifice He made when He gave His life on the cross, allowing us to have the chance for eternal life.

Missing Honduras...
We didn't get to go to Honduras this year, thanks to the mess going on with the new and old presidents. The sad part about this is the people of Honduras are the ones missing out. Well, we are missing out, as well. BUT, WE ARE PLANNING TO GO BACK! We still have our plane tickets and hopefully, things will settle down and the gasoline and food supplies will get back to normal, or better, and we will get to go there again. Please pray for the people of Honduras and for their government, that they will have peace once again.

Baby Birds are here!
Just last Thursday, Roxanna found these eggs in the back yard at the office. Monday, I stopped by the office for a sec and I found the eggs had hatched! We've seen mom and dad Robin around, keeping up the feeding schedule.

In Need
In Need
In need of grace,
In need of love,
In need of mercy raining down
From high above.
In need of strength,
In need of peace,
In need of things that only
You can give to me.
In need of Christ,
The perfect Lamb.
My refuge strong
The great I Am.
This is my song,
My humble plea.
I am your child.
I am in need.
~words and music by Ross King
This song has been on my heart since I first learned it last Sunday morning.
A week ago, Saturday afternoon, Jacksboro lost a young girl in an automobile accident. Kacey King was 14 years old and her life ended too soon. The entire community have been affected by this tragedy. Our sympathy goes out to Kendall and Susan, Sarah and Megan.

You do realize...
that the first quarter of this year is almost gone!!! Oh my.
Anyway, as for some updates, Caden is home and in PT. Please keep him in your prayers for his continued recovery.
Enrique is back in Catacamas Honduras. He's been home a week now and I wish I could have been there to see his welcome home! Can't wait to visit him when we are there in July and see how much English he remembers!
Pray for Chase! Chase is fighting a battle with cancer and needs lots of prayers! Please remember Chase and ask that God will guide the doctors as to how to treat him. Be with his family and be with Mica, and those that are traveling to be with him.
Earlier, I posted a recipe for peach cobbler. Well, I just baked one this morning.

We are having 5th Sunday luncheon at church tomorrow. So I baked the cobbler, a Mexican Cheesecake, and am getting ready to cook King Ranch Casserole. Smells really good in here. Better get back to it.

Caden, Enrique and Honduras Mission Trip
Here are some updates...
Caden is doing much better. After getting to Dallas Children's Hospital, he was diagnosed with Infant Botulism. The meds were shipped from California and he has been improving daily since then. Some of the improvements are small, but each one is treasured. You can find updates here. Thanks for remembering Caden in your prayers and please continue to pray as he has a long road ahead of him. Keep his mom and dad (and the rest of the family) in your prayers as well.
Enrique, who lost his leg in a motorcycle accident (May 08) and was brought to the US as a result of a medical mission trip, has since had an amputation above the knee and now has his prosthesis and will soon be preparing to go back to Honduras. We praise God for sending the team to Honduras and making it possible for him to come to the US, get treatment and we thank the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, therapy staff and many many others that helped in his treatment, and saving his life. He will now live a life helping others and sharing the Good News for God. Keep Enrique in your prayers.
The 2009 Honduras mission group now includes Laronda, Phyllis, John L, Evan, Sammy, Brent, Hannah, Cary, David R., Kenneth, Michael, Frank, Donna, Connie, Mac, Phillip, Yvonne, Ginger, David and myself. Please keep our group in your plans as well as David and Suyapa in Catacamas as they make plans for our trip.

Waiting for a safe flight for Caden
They've been waiting all day. Please God, clear the path for Caden's plane. Please God, give the pilots, nurses, anyone on the plane clear heads and great knowledge for the trip ahead. Please God, prepare the doctors with super knowledge on how to treat Caden, and bring the smile back to his sweet face. Please God, be with Brandon and Lisa as they travel to Dallas by car. Please be with Randy, Aunt Audra, Aunt Leigh and Uncle Daniel as they wait for their arrival in Dallas. Please be with Brazier and Brandon's parents and other family members as they stay behind and wait all the while praying for Caden. You are an awsome God and we thank You for all the blessing You bestow on us. In Jesus, Your precious Son's name we pray. Amen
3-10-09 Caden Update
They are going to care-flight Caden to Dallas Children's Hospital. They are waiting on the plane to go to Odessa, pick up a patient, take that patient to Dallas, fly to Lubbock to pick up Caden. Please continue to pray for Caden and his family.

Please pray for Caden
Dana (Deweber) & Brandon Joy's baby is in the hospital in Lubbock. Last I heard was he was not responding to anything. The dr's did a spinal tap and it's not meningitis, but they don't know what IT is. Also, when they stuck him for the test and others, he did not respond in any way. Please keep Dana and Brandon, Randy and Lisa and the other family members in your prayers. I think Caden was born in October, 2008.

Date is set!
Plans for our trip to Catacamas are in motion. Looks like we will be leaving DFW July 10th and will be in Honduras for a week. We got some really good rates, so thanks for the prayers. Keep 'em going up, please, for everyone's health, for the weather before, during and after our stay, for safe travel, the list goes on and on....
My VBS lesson is going to be "Jail House Rocks" with Pablo y Silas, breaking out of jail. Any ideas or input would be appreciated. I've got my lesson in spanish, but don't know if I can learn to read it or if I will use a translator. We'll see.
